Learning Outcomes
In my course, students engage in the study and analysis of various text types in written language, developing their skills in both writing and comprehension. Through working with diverse texts such as presentations, argumentative texts, reports, informational texts, interviews, blog posts, and others, students learn to recognize and apply comprehension strategies, analyzing the specific features and characteristics of each text type. Each lesson focuses on the study of specific reading materials, which serve as the basis for comprehension exercises. For example, students are given a text from a website, an excerpt from a newspaper, a statistic, or even a short video related to specific topics like migration. Based on this material, students are tasked with composing one of the text types they have studied, which changes with each lesson to strengthen their skills in producing different types of written texts. This approach allows students to practice not only content comprehension but also the application of appropriate verbal tools and strategies for each text type. Specifically, we focus on the development of argumentative discourse, the recognition of the structure and features of each text, and the creation of written works that reflect the specific requirements of each text type. This differentiated approach helps students acquire a comprehensive understanding of texts and corresponding strategies, enhancing their analytical and synthesizing abilities, and preparing them to effectively handle a variety of communication situations in the future.
