Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students: (1) will acquire knowledge of possible ways of intervening in (a) cognitive and (b) emotional dimensions of the personality of older adults with cognitive pathology; (2) acquire knowledge of ways to enhance and / or maintain the cognitive status of the elderly with dementia at a stable level; (3) will acquire intervention skills to enhance the relatively independent living capacity of older adults in the community; (4) will acquire skills related to the diagnosis of typical and atypical types of cognitive pathology in aging.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to familiarize students with the cognitive pathology of aging. Various types of dementia are examined on a theoretical level and through the analysis of case studies of typical and atypical cases of specific types of dementia. In detail, there are presented issues related to the epidemiology of dementia, the assessment of a cognitively impaired adult, vascular cognitive impairment, the pathology of degenerative types of dementia, concepts and new definitions of Alzheimer's disease as well as diagnostic criteria and its management, frontotemporal types of dementia, Parkinson's disease dementia and Lewy body dementia.
