provide the major learning and behavioral characteristics for each diagnostic category
explain the qulaitative differences between integration and inclusion
provide the major effective instructional practices in special education
identify the significant current issues for special education in Greece and internationally
apply their knoweldge about special education in secondary education, depending on each diagnostic category
Course Content (Syllabus)
The goal in this course is to familiarize students with the basic special education concepts and to develop a discussion regarding the appropriate education for each special needs category. The course, being an introduction to special education, includes themes such as the goal and the content of special education, the structures of special education and information on each special needs category. Based on the specific characteristics of children in each diagnostic category, empirically-based interventions, methods and techniques are presented on four axes: a) organization of space and learning environment, b)adapted and special instructional materials, c) strategies and instructional techniques and d) current issues.
