Learning Outcomes
- Know the main aspects and characteristics of the phenomenon of globalisation.
- Understand the relationship between globalisation and education and the changes its influence brings about in national education systems and in the practices of those involved (schools, universities, teachers, etc.).
- Analyse current issues of educational policy and critical developments for Greek education in relation to the processes and principles set by the contemporary environment of globalisation.
- Develop the ability to identify and review sources (policy texts, press publications, websites) and basic scientific literature relevant to the course.
- Cultivate the European and international dimension in their thinking and practices from a critical perspective.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to introduce students to the concept and main features of globalisation and to discuss its relation to education. The focus is on the influence of the economic, political, technological and cultural conditions created by globalization on both the functions and contemporary transformations of national education systems and on the lives of individuals themselves. The course traces the dominant global discourses on education and society in order to highlight the complexity of the processes through which states and educational institutions are called upon to actualize their often conflicting meanings. Among the issues to be discussed are the promotion of 21st century skills, the call for continuous improvement in the effectiveness and quality of education provision and the emphasis on evaluation, policies for the acceptance of diversity and the promotion of equality in education. The search and presentation of relevant material (e.g. press, internet, policy documents, educational platforms, expert presentations, etc.) in class, the systematic discussion and exchange of arguments on the above issues based on specific questions and the use of examples will support the effort to understand the dimensions of the phenomenon of globalisation and its influence on the contemporary Greek educational settings.
