Learning Outcomes
Medical students attending the course of Paediatrics IA 1062 will acquire basic knowledge and skills necessary in order to a) approach the normal child and b) diagnosing disease in newborns, infants, children and adolescents
After successful completion of the course the student will be able to
- Obtain a detailed medical history in paediatric patients
- Perform full physical examination in newborns, infants, children and adolescents
- Evaluate physical parameters (Body weight, Body length, Head circumference) using growth charts and recognize any deviations
- Evaluate different stages of developmental maturation and to recognize important delays.
- Look for and recognize congenital anomalies (syndromes) at an early stage.
- Understand common clinical manifestations and findings (e.g. cough, shortness of breath, vomiting, diarrhea, pain, crying, convulsions, hematuria, edema, anemia, jaundice)
- Interpret basic clinical and laboratory data across different ages
-Know and apply current vaccination schedules according to age
- Know and apply the principles of infant, toddler and child nutrition
