Course Content (Syllabus)
This studio course addresses the expanded practice of architectural composition as it manifests itself in the design of small-scale spaces, interior design, and object design.
Architectural design, in the context of the course, is perceived as a research practice on the design of atmospheres and ambiances and of performativity of surrounding spaces, through which its material and immaterial characteristics, the aspects of its program are expressed and communicated to their users, and through which all affects, effects and poetic reactions are created, and the desired mental states of intimacy, attention, memory and emotion are stimulated.
Small-scale design is the field of testing and experimentation where new creative tendencies and ideologies are heralded, realized and demonstrated; tendencies and ideologies that are more daring than the given social moment allows, and which do not reproduce conventional creative patterns. It is the field of a first application of what is yet to come, acting as an interpreter of the upcoming "new spirit" in the realm of creation, pop culture and everyday life. Within it the ethics of aesthetics encounter socio-spatial experiences.
