Learning Outcomes
In the pre-production stage:
identify the stylistic features of their film
to formulate them in writing
to know how to implement them
to process it through floor plans, mood boards and mood reels.
b. At the production stage:
to stage a scene
to block and technically process a short film according to the characteristics of the cinematic style they have chosen.

Course Content (Syllabus)
In this course we explore the cinematic style and the ways of its composition, through the analysis of specific examples.
We examine the evolution of staging and blocking in silent, sound and contemporary cinema. We analyze scenes using floor plan.
We analyze the ways of constructing the cinematic space and the function of perspective. We also consider the image system of a film and how it is composed through specific examples.
We explore the characteristics of the Open and Closed Film Form, the organization of action, the utilization of space and the construction of the film time of a scene, making use of the open and closed framing.
We analyze the mise-en-scène and explore its contribution to the creation of the Tone and the Mood of a film.

Student Assessment
Description
Delivery of assignment which includes:
α. A video essay that involves an analysis of the film style of a director of your choice from the greek cinema, on the body of his/her work or focusing on a specific film.
β. Filming a scene from a film of that director.
The assignment is fulfilled in 2 stages.
1. Oral presentation (pitch, using power point). The duration should not exceed 7 minutes. The presentation is counted with 30% in the final evaluation
2. The final paper (MP4 video, progress of the oral presentation) is submitted to the exams with the following characteristics:
Use of voice over
Use of floor plans and diagrams
Use of on-screen explanatory titles.
Staging and blocking analysis of an indicative scene.
Filming of the scene analysed with actors of your choice. Follow exactly the original decoupage, tone, mood and atmosphere of the scene.
Duration: not less than 20 minutes(not counting the duration of the scene)
