Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - ensure the balance of carriers in plane problems - calculate the distribution of internal loading of bars in trusses, due to their external loading - draw cross-sectional load diagrams in two-dimensional problems - find normal and shear stresses in beam bending problems - solve simple continuum mechanics problems in one and three dimensions

Course Content (Syllabus)
Concepts from Statics, Strength of Materials and internal (section) forces. Applications to structural members. Concise overview of matrices, vectors and tensors. Kinematics of material points and bodies. Geometry of deformation. Strain tensor and stress tensor. Conservation of mass, linear momentum, angular momentum and energy. Constitutive equations in 1D and 3D. Introduction to Elasticity and Fluid Mechanics.
