Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of this course is the presentation of the historical, political and social conditions that had a serious impact on late 20th and early 21st century French literature(Queneau, Vian, Nouveau Roman,Yourcenar, Tournier, SimenonModiano, Lacarrière, Le Clézio, Houellebecq, etc.) 1. The socio-political and cultural conditions that influenced the post-war French society and literature 2. The forerunners that innovated the French novel Raymond Queneau, Boris Vian (Extracts) 3. The representatives of the New Novel (Nouveau Roman): M. Butor, Μ. Duras, N. Sarraute, C. Simon, etc.(Extracts) 4. Outside of the New Novel a) Marguerite Yourcenar, Mémoires d’Hadrien (presentation of the author and the novel and extracts) 5. Outside of the New Novel b) Michel Tournier : Vendredi ou les Limbes du Pacifique and Gaspard, Melchior et Balthazar (presentation of the author and the novels and extracts) 6. Outside of the New Novel c) Georges Simenon: Dimanche, Betty (presentation of the author and the novels and extracts) 7.
