1) Recognize the basic principles and laws governing micropaleontology and invertebrate paleontology
2) Identify the major groups of microfossil and invertebrate organisms, how they evolved, their ecological preferences, life history and environmental significance
3) Relate the evolution of micro-organisms and invertebrate macro-organisms to key geological-geomorphological and climatic changes in the history of the planet and their importance as biostratigraphic indicators
