Learning Outcomes
The overall aim of this course is to critically present, explain and define the main concepts, theories and methods of analysis and research in the field of Sociology.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- get knowledge of the genesis and the historical development of sociology
- understand the basic concepts of sociology
- develop skill of analysis on social and religious phenomena
- learn the basic principles of analysis on the fields of modern social, ethical and pastoral issues

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is an introduction to sociology and sociological research. Therefore it is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts, theories and research methods used in Sociology, as well as current trends and debates on modern culture, religions and social action issues. Some of the core topics that would be analysed and inquired are: The genesis of the social sciences and Sociology, Classic and Modern social theories and theorists, social behaviour and action, Sociological vs everyday knowledge, reflexive thinking and critic, the organisation of human societies, institutions and social roles, Principles and Methods of social research and religious manifestations in the social field.
