Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of the course the students will: (1) Understand the basic principles for the protection of the environment and sustainable development (2) Understand the current national and European legislation (3) Understand the procedure and methodology for the estimation of environmental impacts (4) Understand the procedure and methodology for the identification and adaptation of the most suitable measures for the minimization of the negative environmental impacts.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the course and scope of environmental impacts Presentation & analysis of basic concepts (air, water, soil). Environment, Sustainable Development Goals, Circular Economy. Environmental legislation and environmental impact studies Search and use of environmental data Climate change Use of remote sensing data, photogrammetry and geo-information systems for the visualization and study of environmental data and impacts. Environmental impact of solid and liquid waste management, hydraulic and harbour works Environmental impacts assessment of road works and transportation systems. Environmental impact of geotechnical works Environmental impact of building structures on the environment (building materials, processes, building, constructions, built environment) Identification and impacts on flora and fauna (lecture) Environmental Economics.
