Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will understand the classification of communication, speech and language disorders as well as how to assess and provide clinical intervention.
Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is an introductory approach to Clinical Speech Pathology and Speech Therapy. The main communication, speech, language and voice disorders in children and adults are briefly presented. In addition, diagnostic methods for the assessment of disorders and methods of clinical interventions for these disorders are mentioned. The modules of the course are as follows: Speech, language and communication - typical speech development and ways of communicating Methods of language assessment, obtaining and analyzing a language sample Developmental language disorder Language problems in children with intellectual disabilities Speech disorders in children with autism Phonological disorders Speech disorders in hearing impaired children Speech disorders in acquired disorders Neurogenic speech disorders Speech flow disorders Speech disorders in craniofacial anomalies Intervening in communication disorders of children and adults: the role of speech therapy Early detection of difficulties in written language using psychometric tools
