The paper with title "A Multi Attack Argumentation Framework", by Alexandros Vassiliades (first author, PhD student), Giorgos Flouris, Theodore Patkos, Antonis Bikakis, Nick Bassiliades and Dimitris Plexousakis, that was presented at the Fourth International Conference on Logic and Argumentation (CLAR 2021) on 21/10/2021, won the CLAR 2021 Best Paper Award.

Young Female Engineer of the Year award

Prize for the best research study at the 1st International Conference for young researchers and students on thermal analysis and calorimetry, Roma, Italy, August 2019

The student team Aristotle University Racing Team Electric & Driverless - Aristurtle, consisted of 20 graduate students and one PhD student, constructed the fourth electric racing car "Thetis", at the summer of 2019. The team participated in two competitions, Formula SAE Italy 2019, and Formula Student Germany 2019. The highest distinction in these competitions was the third (3rd) place in the Overall Category of Electric Vehicles in Formula SAE Italy 2019. Also, in this competition, the team took the first place in the Business Plan Presentation event and the third place in the Cost & Manufacturing event. In the Formula Student Germany 2019, the team managed to pass all the technical inspections and participate in all the static & dynamic events among 39 teams and take the twentieth (20th) place in total. Moreover, the following students of the University of Macedonia and other Universities participated: Dimitra Litaina, Giorgos Moisiadis, Vassilios Psifidis, Nikolaos Kapetanidis, Nikolaos Kougioulis.

HFRI Scholarship

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki's Synthetic Biology student team, iGEM Thessaloniki, won a gold medal in the iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) International Competition held in Boston, USA October 31 - November 4, 2019. The team, consisting of 9 enthusiastic students, managed to design and develop POSEIDON (Programmable Orthogonal Systems Engi neered Into DNA Oligo Networks), the first DNA computer capable of qualitatively and quantitatively quantifying the interactions between DNA and proteins. Proteins are important biomolecules of particular importance and interest in scientific research both for the study of various biochemical pathways and for the treatment of a variety of pathological conditions. The team focused on the characterization of proteins associated with metastatic melanoma cancer. Through its work, iGEM Thessaloniki has introduced an innovative laboratory method aimed at advancing scientific research through the development of new biomedical tools and the production of new knowledge. POSEIDON won gold medal in the World Synthetic Biology Competition, while the student research work was evaluated by a variety of experts in the competition, awarded for its innovative nature and recognized as critical to the advancement of science. The iGEM competition started in 2003 as an initiative of MIT University and has been held every year in Boston, USA, under the auspices of the iGEM Foundation. The student team Panther Racing AUTh, which was formed in January 2017, designed and manufactured a -Moto3 category- racing motorcycle prototype. With this motorcycle, the team represented AUTh, for the first time, in MotoStudent V international engineering competition, which took place in MotorLand Aragon Circuit, in Spain, from 3 to 7 October 2018. The highest distinction of the team was the 2nd Place Award among the 12 Rookie teams, which participated on the competition.

The team proposed the AIRQ! Application for location-based quiz during flights. Their app will continue to compete against other Apps from teams around the world that received the same award.

The work of PhD Candidate Evangelia Parisopoulou in the Didactics of Chemistry with the Title "Use of a closed apparatus -gas collector- in the investigation and study of a gas evolving redox reaction in a school laboratory", is awarded with the 4th Price in the "National Science on Stage festival 2016" contest. The construction and the application of the apparatus is a major part of Mrs Parisopoulou PhD Thesis. Mrs Parisopoulou will participate in the Greek delegation in the contest "European Science on Stage Festival" in June 2017 in Hungary.

The electric racing student team ARITURTLE win the 2nd place at the cost competition (and in a difference of only 1 unit of the first team) and the 3rd place in the overall standing, among 24 competitors from around the world, in the International Competition Formula Student Class II (FSAE) held in Silverstone, UK (from 9/7/2015 to 12/7/2015). The competition is on the design, study, cost and promotion of the electric racing car.

Aristotle Racing Team (ART): 2nd place in the overall ranking of Class 3, at Formula ATA Italy 2015 international competition

The team Alex² consisting of the students of the school of informatics of AUTH Alexandros Kyriakidis and Alexandros Michailidis won the first prize in the Hackathon #apodeiksi. The competition concerns creating a standard mobile phone application to combat tax evasion by modern technology.

Vangelis Banos, PhD candidate of the department, won the 3rd place in the "Open Public Data Hackathon" organized by the Greek Ministry of Administrative Reform and E-Government. The aim of the hackathon was to reuse open public data to develop novel added-value applications, contributing to the creation of new knowledge and business applications. Vangelis created an application called "GRGOV Mobile Search". It is a web application for Android & iOS devices which enables searching the full text of all public data from the following sources: The Cl@rity Opengov Project, The Greek Legislation published by the National Publishing Service, The Central Electronic Registry for Public Contracts.

Mr Vangelis Banos, PhD candidate in the Department of Informatics, won the LoCloud hackathon which was organised by the LoCloud project and Europeana in the context of EuropeanaTech 2015. The competition took place on 2015/02/11 at the Google Cultural Institute, Paris, France.

In the context of the international competition Open Education Challenge 2014 (http://openeducationchallenge.eu/) the proposal "Cubes Coding" by Dr Theodosios Sapounidis has been granded a distinguished award. "Cubes coding" is based on Dr Sapounidis' doctoral thesis and concerns the development of a tangible interface ("cubes") as a robot programming interface to be used by small children (supervising committee: asst. Prof Demetriadis, Prof. Vlahavas, assc. Prof. Basileiadis). The proposal has been included in the best 9 proposals from a pool of more than 600 proposals submitted to the competition from 77 countries worldwide. "Cubes coding" was also granded initial funding as a support toward the development of a relevant business plan. In the context of the International Competition NUMA-2014 (Neo Ubimedia MindTrek Awards), Dr Theodosios Sapounidis was awarded the 2nd place award amongst 34 competitors. The winning proposal entitled "Cubes Coding" is based on Dr Sapounidis' PhD work in AUTh Department of Informatics (supervised by: Asst. Prof. Demetriadis, Prof. Vlahavas and Assc. Prof. Bassileiadis) and concerns the development of a tangible interface based on "smart-cubes", to engage small children in introductory programming activities with the use of the Lego NXT Mindstroms robot. This specific competition advances innovations relevant to the ubiquitous computing approach in digital media.

Mr. Dimitrios Fitsios, PhD candidate in the field of Optical Communications, has been awarded the very prestigious IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship 2014. This fellowship is annually awarded to 10 outstanding graduate students world-wide pursuing graduate education within the Society field of interest. The full-list of the 2014 winners is available online and the awards will be presented at the IEEE Photonics Conference 2014 in San Diego, U.S.A.. It is the first time that a student from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki receives this prestigious award and only the third time for a student from a Greek University.
