Upper secondary degree (6 years of studies). National level examination.
In order to graduate from the School of German Language and Literature, students are obliged to attend and pass examinations in core, compulsory and elective courses. 240 ECTS credits are required for graduation distributed over 8 semesters minimum. The Degree is awarded according to the required minimum local/European credit units (136 Local Credit Units = 240 ECTS) depending on the Programme of Study valid in the academic year of the studentregistration. The courses indicated with ΑΠ (exemption) and ΚΑΤ (graduate asmission examination) refer to courses which the student has successfully attended in a prior bachelordegree. The corresponding ECTS credits from these courses are recognized and awarded for the studentgraduation.
The schooltwo fields of specialization are: A. Didactics and Linguistics and B. Literature and Culture.
Course examinations may involve either written or oral exams, written assignments or a combination of the above. Placement in the form of Microteaching is compulsory and corresponds to 18 ECTS. Students may also choose (a) to submit a thesis and/or (b) to carry out a placement project at educational and other institutes, which respectively equal 12 ECTS.
The Schoolundergraduate Programme of Study aims at the acquisition of basic knowledge in the fields of Linguistics, Didactics and Educational Studies, Translation Studies, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies.
Therefore, the graduates of the School of German Language and Literature, depending on the field of specialization they have chosen, have the opportunity to acquire the following skills:
(a) conduct scientific research and scientifically publish on the fields of German and comparative literature, didactics and linguistics, (b) undertake philological and linguistic research at research bodies, centers and institutes, (c) teach German as a Foreign Language to pupils in primary and secondary education as well as to adults in Ηigher Εducation and other educational institutes of the public or private sector, (d) develop original teaching materials for German as a Foreign Language of use to the different age groups mentioned above, (e) use information and communication technology (ICT) in the teaching of German as a Second/Foreign Language and use various types of learning platforms, (f) teach the literature and culture of the German-speaking countries, (g) select and promote literature of the German-speaking countries to Greek publishers, (h) intermediate between speakers of German and speakers of Greek, (i) translate texts of the broader field of Humanities and edit translations from German into Greek.
Professional qualification is not applicable for the public or private sector.
The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to postgraduate studies.
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to grades of each subject in the Hellenic Higher education.
Άριστα (Arista) Excellent: 8.50-10.00
Λίαν Καλώς (Lian Kalos) Very Good: 6.50- 8.49
Καλώς (Kalos) Good: 5.00-6.49
Ανεπιτυχώς (Anepitychos) Fail: 0-4.99
Minimum passing grade: 5
8 SEMESTERS, 240 ECTS.
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units (European Credit Transfer System) and each semester to 30 ECTS units (1 ECTS=25-30 student work load hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no F5/89656/b3 [Φ5/89656/β3], art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). Τhe number of the required ECTS (>=2) given for each course expresses the studentwork load which is required in order to successfully complete the course or thesis, etc.
