For access to the postgraduate programme of the Department of Education participation to an examination procedure in two core fields in Education (Educational Theory and Practice, Educational Research Methodology) and one of the three major fields (School Education, Continuing Education, Special Education), is required. All candidates are required to have substantive knowledge in at least one foreign language (preferably English and/or German and/or French). All candidates are required to hold a First (Bachelor) Degree (Ptychio) awarded by a Greek University or by a recognized foreign Institution of equivalent status or by a Higher Technological Education Institute (ATEI).

Aim, objectives and anticipated learning outcomes of the Postgraduate Programme of Studies (EQF and NQF Level 7): By the end of their studies, postgraduate students are expected to have acquired all the learning outcomes that apply in Level 6 of the National Qualification Framework (NQF) plus the following knowledge, skills and competences:

The students of the first postgraduate level which leads to the acquisition of a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree, have only compulsory and specialisation courses equivalent to 150 ECTS (1 ECTS equals to 25-hour workload). The courses with their equivalent ECTS are delivered per semester as follows: a) Seventy (70) ECTS of successful completion of compulsory courses: thirty (30) ECTS from three (3) core/common courses in the 1st and 2nd semesters and forty (40) ECTS of the specialisation courses of a specialisation field that are offered in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd semesters. b) Ten (10) ECTS from Autonomous Learning: Students of the MSc. in the third semester, develop a research project on their elective subject field under the guidance of a professor/tutor. c) Ten (10) ECTS from the Practicum/Internship: The students of the MSc. in the 3rd semester participate in a 260-hour internship programme (practicum) in the field of their cognitive field. d) Sixty (60) ECTS from the diploma thesis: The students of the postgraduate programme prepare and write individual research diploma thesis on the subject of the elective field of specialisation within the framework specified in the Postgraduate Studies Programme Regulation in the 4th and 5th semesters. The total weekly teaching hours for the 1st and 2nd semesters are 6h/w. In the 3rd semester for 20 hours a week they participate in the program of Practicum/Internship in the field of their specialisation. Postgraduate students receive their degree when they have accumulated 150 credits (ECTS), and specifically when:

(a) they have successfully completed all courses of the Postgraduate Study Programme in the department Education;

(b) they have successfully completed their postgraduate thesis;

(c) they have completed 2,5 years of study.

Upon successful completion of the Programme students will:

(a) have acquired advanced scientific, theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Education and the related profession/s;

(b) be able to properly apply the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the study period in their professional area which is education and teacher training;

(c) have gained the necessary competencies to proceed to the next cycle of studies.

Teachers and educators in state and private secondary schools, in adult education and training structures and non-formal learning environments, educational planners, assessors and researchers in all educational settings and institutions.

The Second-cycle Degree (Metaptychiako Diploma Eidikefsis) awarded by the School of Philosophy and Education, entitles holders to participate -after they are successfuly selected- to a Doctoral Research Programme of Studies leading to the award of f0Didaktoriko DiplomaThird-cycle degree of specialization) equivalent to a PhD ctorateegree.

A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the grading of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education. The grading scheme for the qualification of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Study Program has the following distribution:

·Άριστα (Arista) Excellent: 8.50-10.00

·Λίαν Καλώς (Lian Kalos) Very Good: 6.50-8.49

·Καλώς (Kalos) Good: 6.00-6.49

Minimum passing grade for receiving the postgraduate degree: 6

Two and a half (2,5) academic years, equivalent to 150 ECTS. Total time duration in academic semesters: 5 semesters. Total weeks of study: 65. Approximate total workload: 3.750 hours.
