The Masterdegree program requires that all students complete coursework in three (3) semesters. During the first and second semester students should attend ten (10) core modules (30 ECTS for each semester) the third semester is devoted to the writing of the postgraduate thesis which all graduate students must formally and publicly present and defend. Participation in all courses, workshops, and practical training modules is mandatory for all graduate students (absence from course attendance must not exceed 10%). Students who fail twice the examinations for a core module are required to repeat attendance of that core module.
The graduate programs leading to a MasterDegree are based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) (article 14 N. ΦΕΚ 3374/2005). Students must accumulate 60 ECTS for one year of full-time study while student workload for one semester corresponds to 30 ECTS.
The program aims to provide students with high level postgraduate education relating to scientific research focused on different aspects of physical activity as a means to promote education for, prevention, and improvement of quality of life (for healthy individuals, individuals with chronic diseases, individuals with special educational needs, and individuals with disabilities) and to supply graduates with required skills and training in relation to the area of sport science.
Program objectives are (a) provision of high quality postgraduate education based on the current scientific advancements taking into account work-related needs in the Greek and European labor market and society for specialized knowledge, (b) provision of specialized knowledge with clear theoretical content and orientation meeting contemporary educational requirements and needs, (c) high quality of postgraduate education aiming to train researchers/scientists capable of providing specialized services and/or designing and implementing original high quality research, and (d) the promotion of interdisciplinary research and collaboration among scientists for studying complex issues in the areas of physical activity and quality of life.
Students after completing the postgraduate program in kinesiology will be able to: Provide specialized and science-based services in the area of exercise and sport in relation to performance enhancement and preservation of individualsealth and well-being through a prevention perspective.Gain a deeper understanding and more fully appraise the quality of scientific research in the area of movement science and sport.Design, implement, and write up results of scientific research in the area of movement science and sport.
