<p style="text-align:justify;">The Postgraduate Studies Programme "Studies in the History, Spirituality, Art and Musical Tradition of Mount Athos" of the School of Social Theology and Christian Culture accepts, upon selection, graduates of the Schools of the Greek Theological Faculties or of equivalent and corresponding Faculties and Schools recognized by the IOATAP in other countries, or of other Faculties and Schools of recognised institutions in Greece or of similar recognised institutions in other countries.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">In order to obtain the MasterDegree, the student must attend and successfully pass six semester courses (60 ECTS) during the first two semesters and write a thesis (30 ECTS) during the third semester, the topic of which is determined at the beginning of the second semester and is graded by a three-member examination committee. The objective of the MSc "Studies in the History, Spirituality, Art and Musical Tradition of Mount Athos" is research, study and scientific training in one of the following three specialisations: a) History and Art of Mount Athos, b) Theology and Spiritual Life of Mount Athos, c) Musical Tradition and Chanting Art of Mount Athos.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Purpose</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The MSc "Studies in the History, Spirituality, Art and Musical Tradition of Mount Athos" serves the research goals of the School of Social Theology and Christian Culture, providing high quality education for the cultivation and promotion of scientific knowledge and research in the field of Mount Athos studies, which is of great international scientific interest, and the training of postgraduate students with specialised knowledge in the fields of the history of the institutions of Mount Athos, theology and monastic spirituality, archaeology, - architecture and art of Mount Athos, as well as the musicology and chanting tradition of Mount Athos.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Learning Outcomes</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">1. Knowledge : Graduates of the master programme "Studies in the History, Spirituality, Art and Musical Tradition of Mount Athos", both at the first and second level, are expected to acquire, depending on the specialisation they have chosen: 1. Specialised competence in the field of History, Theology and Art of Mount Athos and Orthodox Monasticism,2. Research experience in order to be able to study in depth individual aspects of the History, Institutions and Art of Mount Athos, the Monastic Theology and Spirituality of the Athonite State, as well as the peculiar musical tradition and chanting style of the Athonite Chant Art; 3. Advanced knowledge and information in the investigation, using the new tools of study and research in theological, historical, archaeological and musicological science and in the humanities in general, of the historical, theological and musical sources of the Athonite History and Tradition, as well as of the secondary literature, both in Greek and foreign languages; 4. Development of critical scientific thinking, in order to approach and understand in a critical way the historical, theological, musical and other written and iconographic sources of Mount Athos, as well as the modern and contemporary historical, theological, legal and other sources of the Holy Mountain. They should also learn and understand the latest and most recent historical, theological, legal, archaeological and musicological research related to Mount Athos and, more generally, to the Christian and Orthodox monastic tradition, in relation to the contemporary issues that Mount Athos life and tradition, as a basic exponent of ecclesiastical tradition and practice, is called upon to address at an international level.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">2. Skills : Graduates of the master programme "Studies in the History, Spirituality, Art and Musical Tradition of Mount Athos" of the School of Social Theology and Christian Culture acquire, depending on the specialisation they have chosen, specific skills. 1. a) the History and Art of Mount Athos, the genesis and development of Athonite institutions, the political and ecclesiastical historical sources and testimonies of over a thousand years of Athonite history, as well as the archaeological and cultural aspects of the relevant iconographic sets and individual depictions, b) the theology and spiritual life of Mount Athos, the theological teachings, the Athonite contemplative and philosophical spirit and the intertemporal spiritual legacy of the earlier and contemporary Athonite Fathers, as well as the important liturgical manifestations and collections of the Athonite devotional tradition, through the uninterrupted celebration of divine worship in the Athonite monasteries and sketes, and the development of the hagiological, oratorical and hymnographical tradition of Mount Athos, c) the Chanting Art and Musical tradition of Mount Athos, the long Byzantine and post - Byzantine tradition of the chanting art of the Mount Athos musical pieces and the musicological theory and art, as it was cultivated especially on Mount Athos by the Athonite composers and magisters.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">3. Capabilities: Graduates of the master programme "Studies in the History, Spirituality, Art and Musical Tradition of Mount Athos" depending on the specialisation and the courses they have chosen are able to 1. apply theological, historical, archaeological and musicological knowledge in research and the educational process, 2. to search for, analyse and synthesise data and information from the various Mount Athos sources and secondary literature, making use of appropriate research methodology and technology; 3) to work in a scientific way, independently or in groups, even in an international or interdisciplinary environment; 4) to produce original ideas and research knowledge in the field of their specialisation; 5) to have the ability to study critically, within the historical, theological and social context that produced the written sources and the archaeological and cultural evidence of the Athonite tradition, based on the data of contemporary international research; 6) to transfer and exploit the historical, theological, archaeological, philological, legal, musicological and other knowledge they have acquired in the educational, ecclesiastical or social environment in which they work and live.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The Postgraduate Diploma of Specialisation confers a significant number of credits and corresponding salary privileges to employees of the public or private sector, as well as the possibility of continuing studies at doctoral level.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The Masterdegree is a prerequisite for access to doctoral studies in Greece or abroad.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The grading scale used to calculate the studentserformance grades is a ten-point scale (0-10) and the grade of the diploma only follows the following grading scale, with the following characteristics (Y.A. F.1231/B1/425, Government Gazette 1099/2000/B, article 60):</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Excellent: 8,50-10,00</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Very Good: 6,50-8,49</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Good : 6,00-6,49</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The minimum promotable grade is 6.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">3 semesters, 90 ECTS for the award of a Masterdegree. One full academic year of study is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) and one full semester to 30 ECTS (1 ECTS = 25-30 hours) (Harmonization of Greek Legislation Y.A. F5/89656/B3, Government Gazette 1466/2007/B, articles 1-3, in accordance with the European). Each course must be assigned the number of required ECTS (>= 2 ) in order to express the workload required by the student for the completion of a course. The third semester is allocated for the preparation of the master thesis. At the request of the postgraduate student, the School Assembly may decide to extend the period of study by one year.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Compulsory attendance of the lectures organised within each course, as well as the special postgraduate seminars and scientific conferences. </p>
