Postgraduate (Master) Programme "Quality Control-Chemical Analysis-Environment"
Postgraduate
Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or in a subject related to one of the programme specialisations.
The Postgraduate (Master) Programme "Quality Control-Chemical Analysis-Environment" of the School of Chemistry AUTh offers high quality postgraduate education in three specialisations, which cover basic and applied fields of contemporary Chemistry in the areas of: Pharmaceutical Analysis, Product Quality Control and Quality Assurance, and Environmental Quality and Management. The objective of the programme is the theoretical and practical training of students and the scientific research in the field of their specialisation Education and research in each specialisation cover the following scientific areas:
a) Chemical Analysis-Bioanalysis: Advanced Analytical Chemistry, Statistical Analysis, Chemometrics, Instrumental Methods of Analysis (Spectroscopic Analytical Methods, Electroanalytical Methods, Separation Techniques, Biosensors, Immunoassays), Research Methodology, with application in Bioanalytical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis.
b) Quality Control: Advanced Analytical Chemistry, Statistical Analysis, Chemometrics, Instrumental Methods of Analysis (Spectroscopic Analytical Methods, Electroanalytical Methods, Separation Techniques, Biosensors, Immunoassays), Research Methodology, with application in Food Authenticity and Quality Control of Materials.
c) Environmental Quality and Management: Chemistry and Pollution Control of Atmospheric, Aquatic and Terrestrial Environment, Methods of Environmental Sampling and Analysis, Pollution Control Technologies, Management of Water and Wastes, Quality of Environmental Measurements-Quality Management Systems, Environmental Impact Assessment and Geographic Information Systems.
During the first two semesters, students attend courses credited with 60 ECTS totally (30 in each semester). In the third semester, students prepare their MasterThesis on a research project, which is credited with 30 ECTS. The aim of the programme is to prepare skilled scientists able to offer science and research services to the local society. Graduates of our programme can find professional occupation in industry (Chemical, Food, Pharmaceutical industry etc.), Education, Research Institutions, Public Organizations and Agencies, State Chemical Laboratories, Hospitals, Analytical Laboratories etc.

The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to doctoral studies.
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education.

3 SEMESTERS, 90 ECTS
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1ECTS=25-30 student work load hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). Each course is credited with a number of ECTS (>=2) according to the studentworkload (contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful completion of the course.
