<p>The Postgraduate Program in "Cognitive Psychology and Applications" is a four-semester full-time program leading to a Postgraduate (Master΄s) Degree of Specialization in "Cognitive Psychology and Applications".</p><p>The successful completion of the Postgraduate Program leading to Postgraduate (Master΄s) Degree of Specialization in "Cognitive Psychology and Applications" is achieved through the successful examination of four (4) compulsory and four (4) elective-compulsory courses, that correspond to eighty (80) ECTS in total, and ten (10) ECTS for each course and the successful completion of a Postgraduate Diploma Thesis which corresponds to forty (40) ECTS credits. The successful completion of the Postgraduate Program corresponds to a hundred and twenty (120) ECTS credits in total, that correspond to a workload of 30 ECTS credits per semester.</p><p>The aim of the Postgraduate programme in "Cognitive Psychology and Applications" of the Department of Psychology, AUTh is the up-to-date scientific approach to the study of cognitive, metacognitive and affective processes in various contexts, such as education, courtrooms, work and other domains of everyday life. In addition, the aim is to cover the study of dynamic changes in these processes, in lifespan development and (healthy and pathological) aging. The emphasis is both on the cognitive processes of lower and higher hierarchy, as well as cognitive control, metacognition and Theory of Mind. This Master΄s program covers scientific topics about the impact of affect- (i.e., motivation, emotions and other affective factors, such as mood) in cognitive performance over the lifespan.</p><p>Depending on the elective courses that will be chosen, the profile of each postgraduate student is shaped according to his/her learning goals. The three main study paths are:</p><p>(A) that of the cognitive and metacognitive processes,</p><p>(B) that of the cognitive and emotional processes in healthy and pathological elderly</p><p>(C) the applications of the acquired scientific knowledge in everyday life contexts.</p><p>Within this framework the program is offering:</p><p>(a) specialized theoretical knowledge and in-depth training in the scientific field of cognitive functions and teaching students the necessary skills to study the basic psychological functions and cognitive control, the biological basis of these processes and the various emotional factors that affect them in the laboratory and the field settings.</p><p>(b) getting acquainted with the theoretical paradigms and empirical evidence of cognitive psychology and how this applied in everyday life</p><p>(c) training in the relevant scientific research methods that are needed to study cognitive and affective processes</p><p>(d) training in applying psychological tools for assessing cognitive and emotional processes</p><p>(d) familiarization with cognitive and emotional interventions in various populations.</p><p>(f) the completion of a Master Thesis.</p><p>On successful completion of this program, students are expected to:</p><p>A. be able to generate new ideas, to develop and formulate scientific and research questions to search, analyze and synthesize research evidence and data via a scientific approach and new technologies,</p><p>B. be able to take a critical approach and be self-aware to their work be trained to work efficiently both autonomously, as well as within a team adapt to new professional environments and engage in active decision-making,</p><p>C. be competent in successfully handling bibliographical and research data bases, software for statistical analyses, educational learning environments and in communicating in English, an important skill for their professional and personal development.</p><p>D. have learned:</p><p>(i) to comply with ethical issues, to adhere to the professional and research ethics code and to develop professional, social and ethical responsibility,</p><p>(ii) to respect human diversity and multiculturalism and to offer high quality services to diverse groups of people.</p>
