Programme requirements - aims: The aim of the program is to provide basic scientific principles, comprehensive knowledge and methods that will make postgraduate students capable scientists of creating and developing new knowledge and skills as well as applying innovative technologies. These postgraduate students will contribute to sustainable management of agricultural production systems, taking into account the climate change and extreme weather conditions both in the public and private sectors. Finally, postgraduates will have the opportunity to continue their studies to obtain a doctoral degree. The total of credit units (ECTS) required to obtain the Metaptihiako Diploma is 105 ECTS. Postgraduate students are required to attend the postgraduate courses of first (A second (B and third (Csemesters equivalent to a minimum of 75 ECTS. The Postgraduate Thesis is consisted of two sections, the Review of Literature section and the Experimental section, which takes place during the summer period (first phase, with 15 ECTS) and is completed with the processing (data analysis) and the interpretation of results, at the end of the third (Csemester (second phase, with 15 ECTS). The Postgraduate Thesis corresponds to a total of 30 ECTS. All postgraduate students must attend at least four (4) compulsory courses and at least six (6) of the elective courses in one of the following thematic disciplines: Ecology and Environmental Protection, Agronomy, Floriculture, Pomology, Vegetable Crops, Beekeeping, Plant Physiology-Ecophysiology and Biometry-Data Analysis, and Agricultural Experimentation or courses from other postgraduate programs of the University. The postgraduate students, according to their postgraduate thesis and the courses chosen in one of the above thematic disciplines, acquire theoretical and practical knowledge, which improves their a) scientific critical thinking, b) basic principles of scientific research, c) ability and skill to apply research findings in practice, d) knowledge on using modern scientific instruments, methodologies and techniques necessary for acquisition of the primary research data, e) potential of using appropriate software and databases needed to obtain scientific information, analyze and interpret data, and write the thesis, and f) ability to disseminate their scientific information or present the results found in the form of a valid publication.
Postgraduate students, in the context of the Postgraduate Program, choose a series of courses that contribute to the widening and deepening of knowledge, which are necessary for the successful completion of their postgraduate dissertation in one of the following thematic disciplines that the postgraduate program treats:
1. Ecology and Environmental Protection: The purpose of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general topics "Ecology and Environmental Protection", but also in modern knowledge of Agricultural Science directly related to Climate Change and the Environment. The thematic discipline is related to the acquisition minor expertise on "Ecology of Natural, Wetland and Agricultural Ecosystems", "Sustainable Management of Ecosystems" and "Environmental Protection" which are necessary for a graduate within the Postgraduate Program.
2. Agronomy: The purpose of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general topics "Agronomy" that are directly related to Climate Change. The thematic discipline is also related to the acquisition minor expertise in "Agronomy", "Plant Nutrition", Bioeconomy, Cropping systems, "Weed Science" and "Toxicology" that are necessary for a graduate in the context of the Postgraduate Program.
3. Floriculture: The goal of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general issues "Floriculture-Gardening" that are directly related to Climate Change. The thematic discipline is related to the acquisition minor expertise in "Floriculture" and "Gardening" that are necessary for a graduate in the context of the Postgraduate Program.
4. Pomology: The goal of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general topics "Pomology" that are directly related to Climate Change. The thematic discipline is also related to the acquisition minor expertise on "Pomology", "Post-harvest Physiology" and "Quality Analysis" of the products produced. This knowledge is essential for a graduate of the Postgraduate Program.
5. Vegetable Crops: The purpose of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general topics "Vegetable Crops" that are directly related to Climate Change. The thematic discipline is connected with the acquisition minor expertise in the subjects of "Vegetable Crops", "Post-harvest Physiology", "Plant Nutrition" and "Qualitative Analysis" of the produced products. This knowledge is essential for a graduate of the Postgraduate Program.
6. Beekeeping: The objective of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general issues "Beekeeping" directly related to the implementation Authorities of Sustainable Management and the effects of Climate Change. The thematic discipline is related to the acquisition minor expertise on "Beekeeping" and "Qualitative Evaluation of Hive Products" that are necessary for a graduate in the context of the Postgraduate Program.
7. Plant Physiology-Ecophysiology: The aim of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general topics "Plant Physiology-Ecophysiology", but also in modern subjects of Agricultural Science that are directly related to Climate Change and the adaptation of crops in abiotic and biotic stresses. The thematic discipline is related to the acquisition minor expertise in "Physiology-Ecophysiology" of plants that are necessary for a graduate in the context of the Postgraduate Program.
8. Biometry-Data Analysis and Agricultural Experimentation: The objective of the thematic discipline is to provide high quality theoretical and applied knowledge in general but also in issues of Biometry-Data Analysis and Agricultural Experimentation, which support linkages that directly support modern cognitive subjects with Climate Change. The thematic discipline focuses on the acquisition minor theoretical expertise and digital skills in "Biometry-Data Analysis and Agricultural Experimentation" which are necessary for a graduate in the context of the Postgraduate Program.
