In order to obtain their qualification (MA) from the Postgraduate Study Programme (known in Greek by the acronym PMS), in the fields of: a. "Language Didactics and New Technologies in Language Communication" and b. "Translation Studies-Literary and Humanities Translation", the postgraduate students have to successfully complete a four (4)-semester course circle corresponding to 120 ECTS (Ministerial Decision 206588/Z1, Hellenic Government Gazette 3573/2014 vol. B which are obtained as following: 90 ECTS from the successful course attendance and 30 ECTS from a master thesis. In the field of "Translation Studies-Literary and Humanities Translation", the postgraduate students are offered the option to choose between a dissertation and a critical translation. During the first three semesters the postgraduate students are obliged to follow the filed courses they have selected (30 ECTS per semester) and during the last (4th) semester they work on the master thesis (or the critical translation). The postgraduate students in the field of "Translation and Translation Theory" also ought to complete a stage in Greece or abroad.
The object of the PMS is to promote research in the scientific fields of Literature, Language and Translation - Translation Studies, and train well-qualified specialized scientific personnel that will be able to cover existing and foreseeable social and developmental requirements.
The aims are the following:
1.The study of literature as a means of languages/cultures eservation.
2.The research into new teaching approaches towards foreign languages/cultures and the training of specialist scientists in the field of Linguistics.
3.The training of literary and humanities translators and the development of scientific thought and research in the fields of Translation Studies.
4.The training graduates of the Schools of Philosophy and teachers in Primary and Secondary Education in modern theories, methods and tools for teaching languages/cultures, literary texts and translation in practice.
5.The promotion and application of new technologies in language education and in research focusing on humanitarian sciences.
6.The introduction of the intercultural dimension in educational practice, associated to the principle of linguistic/cultural diversity in Europe.
Upon completion in addition to the basic knowledge of their discipline and profession, graduates will be also able to: 1. Apply knowledge in practice, 2. Communicate in a second foreign language, 3. Search, process, analyze and synthetize data and information, use also the necessary technologies, 4. Adapt in unknown situations and take decisions, 5. Work independently or in groups in international and/or interdisciplinary contexts, 6. Generate new research ideas and produce new scientific knowledge, to design and manage scientific and research projects, 7. Respect diversity, multiculturalism and the natural environment, 8. Demonstrate professional, social and moral responsibility and sensitivity to gender issues, 9. Reflect on themselves and on others critically, 10. Promote independent, inductive and deductive thinking.
