The general objective of this course is to develop the student's ability to find innovative solutions to problems that arise in arts educational practice through an understanding of theory and research of the psychology of creative processes and through enhanced personal and collaborative creative expression. Specific objectives include: 1. The use of the inter-artistic process to a) transgress pre-scribed frameworks of perception, b) break out of the intended educational isolation of artistic specialisms and professionalisms in the university, which reflect a desire for perpetuating the authoritative status of cultural elites in the society, and c) to seek out new musical, visual, and educational meanings. 2. The development of self-confidence in personal modes of expression and art educational practice, 3. The development of intuitive processes in inter-artistic collaborations, 4. The appreciation of the value of diversity in group and community creative processes for acoustic ecology, social justice, and education.

The course—attended by both music and visual arts students of the School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki—outlines an inter-artistic learning approach that arises from a complex range of factors – among them, changes in the art worlds, the society, and the economy; the potential for interdisciplinary forms of expression and communication; and growing expectations amongst students that education should expand their potential for personal satisfaction and civic participation. Research topics discussed throughout the semester are the following: 1) The origins and functions of inter-artistic creativity, 2) Critical theories on the musicalization/sonification of visual arts and visualization of music/sound arts 3) Children as creative thinkers in music: focus on composition and improvisation, 4) Fostering creativity in inter-artistic settings, 5) Creating soundscapes, 6) inter-artistic creativity, learning communities, social justice. The course offers a unique academic opportunity to the students of the department of Music Studies to collaborate with the students of the Visual Art Department for whom the course is obligatory in the research project CR.E.A.M. (acronym for Creative Encounters with Art and Music -http://www.mus.auth.gr/cms/?q=node/491), which is an interesting and timely series of interartistic experimentations that encompass the kernel of the course's syllabus since 2010.
