Learning Outcomes
A. To develop an undrstanding of the genome structure, organization and function, the concept of -omics, regarding transcription-transcriptome, translation-proteome, and regulation of gene expression and genome activity. B. Learn and recognize the sources of DNA polymorphisms and the applications in molecular genetic analysis and development of biodiagnostic technologies. C. Comprehent the application of basic knowledge on genome structure and function in the modern recombinant DNA technologies and the development of biotechnologies in production and plant breeding.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Lectures of the course describe the structure and organization of DNA as genetic material, as well as the functions of DNA in replication and transcription, and finally the translation of mRNA into protein and the regulation of gene expression. The course introduces in bacterial genetics and genetic analysis of development. DNA mutation, repair, and transposon elements in conection with DNA polymorphisms are described. Topics in recombinant DNA technologies and genetic engineering with application in plant breeding are introduced. The course also covers topics in genome analysis, a field that is currently driving the rapid advancement of knowledge in the area of molecular genetics.
