Course Content (Syllabus)
In the course “Introduction to Composition” the students are exposed to the basic composition techniques. In the first six lessons we proceed from one-voice to four-voice composition exercises. The next seven lessons focus on the parameters of rhythm and texture. Since the composition exercises are not abstract but applied to music instruments, the students get to know the instrumental playing techniques. During the course, past and contemporary compositions are analyzed. The composition techniques are examined in reference to matters that concern the creative expression and the aesthetic quest. The course weekly includes 1 hour lecture and 2 hours workshop.
