Course Content (Syllabus)
What is a stochastic process. Markov property. Definition of the discrete time Markov chain. Classification of the states. Description of the evolution of the Markov chain through time. Mean first passage times. Probabilities of the waiting times. Asymptotic behaviour of the discrete Markov chain. Definition of the continuous time Markov chain. Transition rates. Kolmogorov equations. Asymptotic behaviour of the continuous Markov chain Poisson processes and compound Poisson process. Elements of the theory of queues.
