Learning Outcomes
The comprehension of the religiousness of the ancient Greeks and her expression via the worship of the gods. We will try to approach the ideology of the ancient Greek world concerning the conception of the Divine.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The purpose of the course is the study of the cult-practices in the ancient Greek sanctuaries (gods and their functions, cult-buildings, priesthood, festivals, sacrifices to the gods and other rituals, votives etc.) Week #1 Introduction. Research-history, terminology (sanctuaries, temples, altars, priesthood, offerings, festivals etc.) Week #2 The cult of Zeus Week #3 The cult of Hera Week #4 The cult of Athena and Poseidon Week #5 The cult of Demeter and other chthonian deities Week#6 The cult of Apollo and Artemis Week #7 The cult of the other Olympian gods Week #8 The cult of Dionysus Week #9 The cult of healing gods Week #10 Introduction of Anatolian cults Week #11 The cult of heroes Week #12 Comparative study and conclusions Week #13 Review of the lectures and preparation for the examination
