Students will be able
to understand the formation of the concept and the diagnostic category of specific learning disabilities
to explain how this category is different from sschool failure
to indicate the content of the difficulties in different developmental phases and cognitive areas
to describe the basic screening characteristics of specific learning disabilities
to recognize the differences among the various models explaining SLD
to provide support for the use of specific instructional approaches.

Course Content (Syllabus)
In this course, specific learning disabilities are educationally approached, aiming towards a deep understanding of the learning-academic problems caused by the cognitive and socio-emotional characteristics of students. In additon, issues concerning the recognition of specific learning disabilities in class and the contribution of teachers in the diagnostic process are discussed. A special emphasis is placed on effective instructional approaches for students with learning disabilties and the theoretical and empirical base for each approach. In depth comprehension of learning disabilities is supported by studying the perspectives of both the students and their families.
