Learning Outcomes
(a) To acquaint students with prose-writers and rhetoric texts of Greek prose-literature.
(b) To enable students to translate and interpret ancient rhetoric texts.
(c) To familiarize students with the special features of the rhetoric during late antiquity, especially in comparison to the classical period.
(d) To enable students to recognize similarities and differences in the style of various prose-writers.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The class focuses on ancient Greek prose literature, with emphasis placed on rhetoric, and with a thorough examination of representative writers and works. One or more writers are selected (Isocrates, Dion of Prusa, Julian) and emphasis is given to the close study of relevant texts from the original, the familiarization of students with the era in which these works were written, and to issues pertaining to practical criticism and interpretation of the works. The course makes ample use of all technological facilities, such as power point, specialized sites available on internet (e.g. TLG, The Gate to the Greek Language, the program about the Erasmic pronunciation). All necessary external links are made available directly on the webpage of the course (elearning).
