Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
(a) understand that the conditions for the renewal of Modern Greek poetry were formulated before 1930;
(b) get to know the work and poetry of important representatives of the so-called 1920 Generation;
(c) become familiar with and practice the critical reading of poetic texts and texts of literary and literary criticism.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The subject of the course is the legacy of Surrealism to poets of the First Post-War Generation; heritage that is labeled as a "neo-surrealist" trend.
After the introduction, which emphasizes the emergence of the surrealism movement in France and the reception of the movement in Greece during the last decade of the interwar period, the conditions of survival of the movement in poetic post-war production are examined, depending on the catalytic role of historical experience and on the reference axis a representative flowering of texts by Hector Kaknavatos and D. P. Papaditsas.
Main questions to consider: In what ways does postwar poetic Surrealism embody traumatic historical-political experience and existential anguish? To what extent does it ultimately enrich/renew or reproduce its pre-war/interwar "ancestor"?
