Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will: 1. get to know from experience the christian monuments of Byzantine Thessaloniki. 2. be able to deepen their knowledge on the monumental topography of Christian Thessaloniki through the study of written sources and the visit to the byzantine monuments.

Course Content (Syllabus)
1. Introduction to the monumental topography of Thessaloniki during Late Antiquity and Byzantine times: overview, historical context and written sources (classroom). 2. From Paganism to Christianity - Late Antique Monuments in Thessaloniki: Galerian Palace Complex - Rotunda. 3. Visit to the Museum of Byzantine Culture (Part I: Early Christian Thessaloniki). 4. Hosios David - Acheiropoietos - Hagios Demetrios. 5. Visit to the Museum of Byzantine Culture (Part B: Middle Byzantine Thessaloniki). 6. Hagia Sophia - Panagia Chalkeon. 7. Visit to the Museum of Byzantine Culture (3rd part: Late Byzantine Thessaloniki). 8. Metamorphosis Sotiros - Hagios Panteleimon. 9. Hagia Aikaterine - Hagioi Apostoloi. 10. Prophetes Elias - Taxiarches - Hagios Nikolaos Orfanos. 11. Monastery of Vlatades – The Walls. 12. Visit to the Ecclesiastical Museum of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki. 13. Course conclusions - Presentation of projects/thesis (classroom).
