Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students should be able to understand and investigate the moral consideration on commercialisation of the human body from the point of view of Orthodox Bioethics. Moreover, they may compare and evaluate various approaches on important issues of commercialisation, such as slavery, prostitution, surrogate motherhood und organ trade.

Course Content (Syllabus)
In this course several forms of commercialisation of the human body are examined, such as slavery, prostitution, surrogate motherhood and organ sales, from the point of view of orthodox social ethics and bioethics. 1. The subject of Social Ethics 2. The characteristics of Orthodox Social Ethics 3. Human Body in the orthodox tradition 4. Slavery in the Holy Scripture 5. Patristic approaches on slavery 6. Prostitution: legal and social approaches 7. Prostitution: philosophical and feministic approaches 8. Prostitution: the theological approach 9. Surrogate motherhood: legal and social approaches 10 Surrogate motherhood: the ethical consideration 11. Selling human organs: a good solution to the organ shortage? 12. The argumentation against selling human organs 13. The commercialisation of human body in the context of bioethics
