Course Content (Syllabus)
The first section studies the ways of the manuscript tradition of the texts of national and Christian literature until the invention of printing: writing materials, history and evolution of Greek writing, book forms, means of dating (chronology) of manuscripts, autographs, palimpsests manuscripts, copying workshops, scribe errors, catalogs of manuscripts, digitization.
The second section consists of an exercise on the reading of manuscripts with representative writing samples (abbreviations, notes, etc).
In the third section the methodology and the basic principles of a critical edition/publication are presented.

Description
Assigned essays requiring reading of a text from manuscripts and comparing the resulting text to the respective text in an existing critical edition/publication. Oral presentation of the assigned work in the duration of the course.
