Upon successful course completion students will be able to - know the basic concepts of cognitive psychology - know the major theories of cognitive psychology - know the basic concepts and theories of perception, memory, language, and thinking, - comprehend the cognitive substratum of learning in children (how information processing converts information to knowledge)

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Cognitive Psychology. Information Processing Theories, Parallel Distributed Models. Oral and written language: Theories and models. Sensory, short-term and working memory: structure and models. Long-term memory: structure and models. Knowledge representation. Encoding and retrieval processes. Facilitating cognitive development: thought, problem solving, building knowledge. Cognitive operations in the classroom: learning to read, reading to learn.
