Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of the course, the students will be able: • to describe the basic concepts and definitions of Transportation Economics such as elasticity, cost, pricing of transport services, etc. • to know the transport policy of the European Union, its exercise bodies, its main objectives and means of implementation, and the organization of the transport system in the context of the Greek economy, • to understand the terms of competition in freight transport in Greece, and • to apply investment evaluation methods in the field of transport, such as cost-benefit analysis (method of net present value, cost-benefit ratio, internal rate of return, etc.) and multicritical analysis methods.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Transport Economics, basic concepts and definitions , elasticities, cost, pricing of transport services. Transport policy in E.U. , policy bodies and institutions, basic objectives and means to realize it. Transport in the frame of Hellenic Economy. Competition terms in freight transport in Greece. Investment evaluation methods in the transport sector. Cost-benefit analysis (present value method, cost-benefit ratio, Internal Rate of Return (IRR), etc.), multi-criteria analysis.
