There are no prerequisites for Lit 7-317.
•Familiarize themselves with the close reading and analysis of various poetic styles as these are formulated by various practicing poets coming from various social and cultural groups •Examine the development of poetic writing in conjunction with various social/political/artistic developments and events •Familiarize themselves with the reading and interpreting of essays that the poets themselves have written.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course examines the formation and development of American Modernist poetry as well as the various trends (Imagism, African American Renaissance, regionalism) that appeared during the period of 1914-1950 with emphasis placed on race and gender as well as on expatriate American poets: Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot, William Carlos Williams, Gertrude Stein, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Amy Lowell, Hilda Dolittle (H.D.), Mina Loy, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Claude McKay,Angelina Grimké, Αnne Spencer, Gwendolyn Brooks.

-Online material made available via the American Studies Resource Portal (www.asrp.gr)as well as documentaries/interviews via youtube. -As regards communication with the students, this is always carried out via email or the online posting of various announcements. -The elearning platform is used for the uploading of all course material as well as for the submission of the student essays. - The course was examined for the fist time online in September 2020 via the elearning platform (method used: Quiz with open-ended questions).
a.Final written examination (Compulsory) OR b.Final written examination & In-class presentations followed by a written report. Score: 10% (presentation) and 10 % (report). OR c.Essays (without taking the end of semester exam: three close textual and critical analyses οf poetic texts and theoretical essays of 2,500 words each; Score: 30% first essay and 35% for each one of the next two essays).
