General Prerequisites
It is recommended for students who have already attended INX101 (Introduction to the History of Modern Times) and INX603 (Contemporary European History, 20th c.).
Learning Outcomes
i) Τo familiarize students with the ideological currents of the 20th century and the political and social antagonisms of the time; ii) Τo train students in the analysis of primary and secondary sources.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The understanding and the critical appraisal of the phenomenon of fascism and its integration into the historical context. 1. Introduction: The conservative reaction to the ideals of the French Revolution 2. The role of national and imperialistic antagonism: nationalist and racist theories and practices 3. The experience and the consequences of WWI 4. Definitions and main ideological characteristics of fascism 5. The Italian fascism 6. The German national-socialism 7. Minor fascist and extreme right-wing movements during the interwar period 8. Anti-fascist resistance: Popular Fronts and the antifascist alliance of WWII 9. Fascism and extreme right in post-war Europe 10. Fascism and historical sources 11. Sources – students’ presentation 12. Sources – students’ presentation 13. Sources – students’ presentation
