Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to develop knowledge on issues of research methodology and plain statistics and to develop skills of scientific writing and social and educational research. More specifically, the students will learn to read, write and evaluate scientific work. Moreover they will understand the research process, research methods, research tools, and will be able to formulate research questions, to arise research hypotheses, to design research tools, to collect and manage research data and to analyze them using basic statistical knowledge. Finally they will be able to discuss the findings and conclusions.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Categorization of scientific publications. Orientation to the library, search strategy, process and organization of scientific material. Principles of written composition and presentation of scientific papers. Science as a concept. Science and scientific methods. Epistemological remarks on scientific research. Research Methodology. Educational research and its role in the field of education. Scientific and methodological approaches. Introduction the design of an educational research. The problem of the possible approaches. The selection and development of appropriate methodological tools. Analysis models, research topics, manner and means of collecting empirical data and methods of investigation results. Statistics: Basic descriptive statistics: frequencies, distributions, measures of central tendency and measures of variability, correlation tests and Chi Square.

Student Assessment
During the semester, the students prepare short essays (exercises) on specific issues. At the end of the semester students prepare and present small research projects. There are no written exams at the end of the semester.
