Course Content (Syllabus)
The students get familiar with the semi-cursive writing system (handwriting). An extensive introduction to the Semitic languages as well as a synchronic and diachronic approach to the Hebrew language is being presented. We study the basic morpho-syntactical features of Modern Hebrew in a comparative / contrastive approach to the Indoeuropean languages and mainly to Modern Greek. We examine the Hebrew noun (grammatical genders, numbers, cases, word order) and the students start to form simple non-verbal clauses from the very first lesson. Students get familiar with the Hebrew verbal system (grammatical tenses, binyanim and subgroups) and upon successful completion of the course they form simple verbal clauses in present tense. The first ordinal and cardinal numbers (1-10) are studied in both grammatical genders.

A combination of ongoing assessment during the semester (small written assignments or/and oral presentations)and the final written exam. An oral exam can be arranged for students with learning difficulties, foreign or Erasmus students etc.
