Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: a) have a complete picture of Orthodox anthropology b) answer modern anthropological questions based on the ascetic tradition, as summarized in the texts of the Symeon of the New Theologian c) combine the anthropological questions of the 11th century with the data of the ascetic literature of the 4th and 5th century

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course deals with the significance of the salvation perspective of human beings in the Orthodox Church. It examines the place and teaching of Saint Symeon of the New Theologian on the basis of his writings. The purpose of the lesson is to bring the students into contact with the texts of Simeon the New Theologian and teach them the ways in which they were interpreted in the history and Tradition of the Church. The connection between Simeon and Saint Maximus the Confessor and the influence and common experience with Saint Gregory Palamas is noted.
