Δίπλωμα Αγρονόμου και Τοπογράφου Μηχανικού (Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering)
Undergraduate
Upper secondary degree (6 years of studies). National level examination.
In order to graduate from the Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering, the students have to attend and pass examinations on a number of courses comprising, three groups, namely foundation, core and specialization. The last group consists of both compulsory and elective courses, along with a graduation thesis. The first six semesters include foundation and core courses that provide the student with the necessary fundamental knowledge. During the following three semesters students attend compulsory courses belonging to one of the following specializations (A. Geodesy and Surveying, B. Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography, C. Transportation and Hydraulic Engineering). During the last semester students work on a graduation project, leading to a diploma. The internship is elective and is realized during the 9th semester.
The examination is oral/written or in an assignment form.
The undergraduate programme of studies of the Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering provides the students with a background of Geometry, Mechanics and Geoinformatics and a subsequent study of disciplines related to recording, mapping and monitoring the natural and the built environment, along with the design and management of environmental engineering interventions.
Specifically, upon successful completion of their studies, the graduates of the School, depending on their spacialization, possess training and skils for
(a) performing terrestrial and satellite (GPS,LIDAR, etc) geodetic and geophysical measurements using high accuracy specialized instruments and methods
(b) execution of surveying campaigns for the creation of topographic maps in various scales
(c) measurementsnalysis using statistical and other scientific methods
(d) study and synthesis of any maps in various scales
(e) execution of cadastre projects
(f) the study and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
(g) processing of digital images from satellite, aerial and close range sensors and photographs for the generation of digital representations and the extraction of 3D models using photogrammetric methods
(h) processing of pancrhomatic, multispectral, hyperspectral and RADAR satellite and airborn images for the extraction of thematic information
(i) study and synthesis of geographic maps and atlases
(j) execution of country and town planning projects
(k) highway planning studies and projects
(l) hydrological studies and planning of hydraulic works and projects
(m) execution of Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Management studies
(n) advising in the wider scientific field of Geoinformatics and finally
(o) providing training for educators in the related disciplines of Rural and Surveying Engineering in technical schools of secondary education and vocational training insitutes (ΙΕΚ).
Graduates of the Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering, beyond the knowledge of their discipline and proffession, possess abilities to: 1) apply knowledge in practice, 2) communicate in a second (foreign) language, 3) search, process, analyse and synthesize data and information, use also the necessary technologies, 4) adapt to changing conditions and make decisions, 5) work independently or in groups in international and/or interdisciplinary settings, 6) generate new research ideas and design and manage projects, 7) respect diversity, multiculturalism and the natural environment, 8) exhibit social, professional and moral responsibility and sensitivity to gender issues, 9) exercise criticism as well as self-criticism, 10) promote free, inductive and deductive thinking.
The professional qualifications of Rural and Surveying Engineering are determined and guaranteed by the Law 4663/30 FEK 149 A/9.5.1930: n the exercise of the profession of the Civil Engineer, the Architect and the Survey Engineer The prescribed by the Law professional license is granted by the Technical Chamber of Greece.
The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to postgraduate studies (2nd and 3rd Cycle).
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education.
Άριστα (Arista) Excellent: 8.50-10.00
Λίαν Καλώς (Lian Kalos) Very Good: 6.50-8.49
Καλώς (Kalos) Good: 5.00-6.49

Minimum passing grade: 5
10 SEMESTERS, 300 ECTS.
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1ECTS= 25-30 student work load hours) according to the Ministerial Decision no Φ.5/89656/Β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Govermment Gazette no 1466/2007/B. Each course is credited with a number of ECTS (>=2) according to the studentworkload (contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful comletion of the course.
