Upper secondary degree - National level examination.
To graduate from the School of Physical Education and Sport Science, students have to attend and successfully complete courses (compulsory and elective). The programme of studies is structured as follows: Compulsory Theoretical and Practical Courses, Compulsory Direction Courses, Elective Theoretical and Applied Courses, each student, during his/her 4th year of studies, is required to choose one Specialization (9 hours per week).
The students, who have been accepted by the department as "athletes", are obliged to choose the specialization that corresponds to their sport.
Also the students can choose to do a dissertation, which equals with three Elective courses.
The exams are taken orally / written or with an assignment.
The Undergraduate Study Program (USP) provided by the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science aims at educating young scientists, in order to study and comprehend scientific developments in Physical Education and Sport and produce new knowledge. Significant part of the Curriculum concerns the acquisition of skills (sport, psychological, educational, etc) contributing to the development of Sport Science. On an applied level, the Curriculum aims at educational outcomes and acquisition of skills which enable students to provide services in education, health, recreation and competitive sport. Finally, the Curriculum, aims at highlighting physical activity and sport, as a mean for social inclusion, recreation, fitness improvement, health, creativity, and generally as part of the quality of life of all ages.
Therefore, the graduates of the department, depending on chosen subjects, direction and specialization may be eligible to: 1) Teach Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Education, 2) do research, 3) promote and develop Olympic sports, 4) study the historical, social and philosophic basis of Sport 5) provide training and coaching services to optimize athletic performance, 6) provide for biological adaptations through exercise and evaluate sports performance, 7) analyze the mechanics of sport movements, 8) comprehend and provide for the psychological wellbeing of participants and teams in sport and exercise, 9) plan and supervise exercise programs for the promotion of health, 10) promote the physical, mental, social and moral development of the participants, through exercise, 11) apply exercise as a therapeutic mean to participants with sensory disabilities, 12) provide exercise in various job environments, 13) provide exercise and sport to participants with disabilities and special abilities, 14) comprehend the detrimental effects of the use of illegal substances and methods for performance enhancement on health and 15) promote outdoor recreational activities.
Besides their knowledge and skills related to Sport Science, graduates of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science, are able to:1) communicate in a second language, 2) search, analyze and compose data and information by using the appropriate technology, 3) adapt to new environments and take appropriate decisions, 4) work independently or in groups in international and/or cross scientific environments, 5) produce new ideas and plan/ administer scientific and research projects, 7) respect diversity, multiculturalism and physical environment, 8) exhibit professional, social and moral responsibility, 9) be sensitive to issues related to gender and 10) exhibit critical thinking.

The qualifacation is a terminal award and allows acces to postgraduate studies.
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education.

8 Semesters, 240 ECTS.
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1ECTS= 25-30 student work load hours) according to the Ministerial Decision no Φ.5/89656/Β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). Each course is credited with a number of ECTS (>=2) according to the studentworkload (contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful completion of the course.
