MA in Philosophy: Texts, Interpretations, Practices
Postgraduate
Prospective postgraduate students should have a first degree form a Greek University, preferably a first degree in Philosophy, Political Theory or Sciences, or Law. Graduates from non Greek Universities can also apply on condition that their degree has been recognized as equivalent to a Greek University degree by the proper state authority. Candidates take a written exam in philosophy and in a main European language and they are also interviewed by a faculty committee.
The Graduate Philosophy Program focuses on the field of Philosophy, with emphasis on the historical development of the philosophical thought and on the philosophical treatment of the fields of politics, ethics and of law. The graduates of the MA Program have the necessary knowledge and skills to deepen in philosophical research and teaching, as well as their application to the research areas of political theory, ethical philosophy and the philosophy of law.

The Second-cycle Degree (Diploma Metaptychiakon Spoudon) awarded by the School of Philosophy and Education entitles holders to be considered for admission to a Doctoral Programme of Studies leading to daktoriko DiplomaThird-cycle degree of specialization), which is equivalent to a PhD Degree (Doctorate).
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the grading of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education. The grading scheme for the qualification of the Graduate Study Program has the following distribution:
-Άριστα (Arista) Excellent: 8.50-10.00
-Λίαν Καλώς (Lian Kalos) Very Good: 6.50-8.49
-Καλώς (Kalos) Good: 6.00-6.49
Minimum passing grade for graduate studies: 6
Three (3) academic semesters, equivalent to 90 ECTS.
Εach semester is equivalent to 30 ECTS (European Credit TransferSystem) (1ECSTS=25-30 student work load hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/Β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B).
