Prerequisites
General Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in cognitive psychology such as memory, learning, thinking, metacognition, and learning and teaching in various knowledge domains.
Learning Outcomes
Students will have the following learning outcomes: (a) Knowledge of concepts and theories related to metacognition, affect, and their interaction in learning in various age groups and contexts. Also, knowledge of educational interventions aiming at the enhancement of learning. (b)Methodological knowledge and skills related to research in relevant issues. (c) Skills in the use of bibliographical bases and writing of essays. (d) Presentation skills in the form of power point. (e)Collaboration skills.

Course Content (Syllabus)
In this course issues covered involve the awareness people have of their cognitive processes and their regulation. The facets of metacognition and methodology of research are investigated as well as issues related to the relations of metacognition with intelligence, memory and learning. The effects of affective and social factors on metacognitive processes are pointed out as well as the role of metacognitive experiences and metacognitive knowledge such as theory of mind and epistemological beliefs, on learning and thinking. Emphasis is also given to metacognitive skills and use of cognitive and metacognitive strategies for self-regulation of learning.

Students are tested (a) in the papers written during the course (50%) and (b) in oral or written exams at the end of the semester as regards the application of relevant knowledge in research (50%).
