Course Content (Syllabus)
Techniques of modern igneous petrology, basic thermodynamics with emphasis on the phase rule, binary and ternary T-X and P-T phase diagrams and mineral equilibria - processes that control the genesis of igneous rocks - fractionation of trace and rare earth elements in magmas – geothermobarometry - plate tectonic controls on petrologic processes.
