Learning Outcomes
Students upon successful completion of the course, are able to:
- distinguish the shift of prose to poetry through the use of figures of speech
- understand the use of liturgical hymns for dissemination of Christian teaching
- comprehend the aesthetic and pastoral outcome of the funeral service.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Christian Homily consists a particular literary genre which was influenced by the laudatory (encomiastic) rhetorical speech. Hymns are the next step, when prose shifts to poetry by means of rhythm, intonation of the sentences and specific figures of speech.The purpose of the course is for the students to study the funeral service, to identify the homiletic features of the content and the poetic elements which invent its biblical and dogmatic teaching.
