Course Content (Syllabus)
The module focuses on the understanding of phenomena of interpersonal communication as well as the theoretical approaches within we understand these phenomena. It discusses the importance of the self concept in interpersonal communication and of the encompassing social context. Issues considered: theories of communication (social-psychological, sociocultural, cybernetics, phenomenological, semiotic, critical); Self (self concept, self esteem, self motives, self presentation); Social context (social norms, structures and relationships); Conversation; Verbal communication (e.g. speech acts); Non-verbal communication (e.g. kinetics, proxemics).
