Learning Outcomes
The main learning objectives of the course are the sudents to become able to: . design the architecture of distributed control systems . to get acquainted with the specialized programming languages used in practice for the development of industrial control applications with DCS PLCs and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Model of the integrated information system of an industrial organization. Hardware and software architecture of the computer units which implement the functions of the various levels of an industrial organization. Typical pre-fabricated computing modules for assembling and configuring distributed control systems(DCS), Programmable Logic controllers(PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems((SCADA). Languages for writing industrial control software(Ladder Logic Diagrams, Function Block Diagrams, Instruction List, Structured Text and Sequential Function Charts. Software engineering workbenches for the design, debugging and execution simulation of industrial control software.

Description
The lectures in the class are supported by demostrations on the use of simulators and software engineering tools. The laboratory work requires the use by the students of the same simulators and software engineering tools which are presented in the class lectures. Student communication with the teaching personnel can be done by e-mail and through the website of the module.

Student Assessment
Description
The ovearall assessment of the student performance is based on the partial assessment of his/her laboratory work(25%) on the correctnes check by simulation of a programming project(25%) and on the results of written examination taking place at the end of the semester(50%) Thge assessment criteria of the student laboratory work are the level of skill obtained at the end of each laboratory work to use software engineering tools for developing software for industrial automation and tersting its correct operation by simulation. The criteria used for assessing the programming project is the extend to which the student has succedded in combining the programming skills and the taught design methodology in solving and implementing in software a small scale industrial control problem. The assessment criteria of the written examination is the depth of understanding achieved of the basic programming concepts and software development methodology.
