Learning Outcomes
With the successful completion of this course the students will: - understand the meaning of the transport safety - learn the specific issues covering the content of the road safety and the traffic management - be aware of the environmental aspects of the transport systems - enhance their awareness on the compliance with the road safety rules - be familiar with the road accident prediction models - understand the components of ensuring the safe transport of dangerous cargoes - be able to study, advise and consult on issues related to the subject of transport safety and environmental impacts

Course Content (Syllabus)
(a) The issue of safety in transportation, legal issues, organization – bodies responsible. (b) The dynamic system “road environment, vehicle, drivers”. Policies and campaigns for public awareness and training on road safety. Road accident forecasting models. Traffic and road safety management. Reporting and data bases of road accidents. Road accident analysis methodologies. Principles and measures to improve road safety. Evaluation of transport safety improvement measures. Determination of road accident cost. Traffic noise impact. Vehicles, new technologies, air pollutants – dispersion models. Optical and aesthetic intrusion. Environmental planning, impact management policies. Environment protection measures.
