Course Content (Syllabus)
It is examined and investigated the problem of the Byzantine artist for whom we have limited information, regarding the marital status, the systematic schooling relative to the profession, the social and financial status and the relation to the political and ecclesiastical authorities. However, only a few names, particularly of Cretan painters, have been rescued by the archival investigation, after the conquest of the Constantinople. Since the 16th century and after, a great number of names confirm the ascending aesthetic outburst of painters of the post-Byzantine period. Τhe purpose of the course is to prove that the Byzantine artist continued to remain a member of the society of his era. During the post-Byzantine period, the enslaved Orhodox East continues its artistic journey. Under the new presuppositions the post-Byzantine artist didn’t change his habits and targets.
